Nick Ford is live with his original music project at The House Of Machines

Abraham Mennen (saxophone) and his band Reza Khota (guitar), Nick Ford (bass) and Bonolo Nkoane (drums) perform at A Touch Of Madness in observatory at their regular Sunday jazz afternoons.

Nick Ford - a talented and exciting Cape Town bassist and composer, will be hosting a concert of vibrant South African jazz music at Cape Town's most exciting club and live music venue - The Athletic Club And Social on this first Thursday of February. Joined by Justin Bellairs on alto sax and Kirsten Skippers on piano, this is sure to be an exciting and can't-miss concert!

Abraham Mennen is one of South Africa’s most exciting and adventurous saxophonists and improvisors. Known for his virtuosity, unique compositional style and experimental approach to the instrument, he has worked luminaries Louis Moholo, William Parker, Oliver Lake, Hilton Schilder, Kyle Shepherd, Kesivan Naidoo, Hamid Drake, Siya Makuzeni, Mandisi Dyantis, amongst many more, and performed in famous international venues like the Poisson Rouge, Dizzy Club Coco Cola, The Bimhuis, The Roundhouse, Vortex London, The Royal Festival Hall, The Stone and BB Kings Blues Club NYC.

The quartet features Abraham Mennen on tenor saxophone, Reza Khota on guitar, Nick Ford on double bass and Bonolo Nkoane on drums. The quartet will perform all original compositions by Abraham Mennen.

The East City Sessions jazz programme at Harrington's will be featuring Nick Ford, an innovative and exciting young musician on the Cape Town scene, with his original music venture "The Nick Ford Project". After a triumphant success at The Commons Muizenberg, the Nick Ford Hard Bop Tribute Quintet is hitting it again at Cape Town's Athletic Club and Social

The Hard Bop era was one of the most exciting and vibrant times in the history of black American music (jazz). Developing as a reaction to the intense and abrasive music of the bebop era, Hard Bop drew influence from rhythm and blues, gospel and soul music to create a style of jazz which was danceable, vibrant and appealed to a much wider audience. The Nick Ford Hard Bop Tribute Quintet pays homage to the incredible music of this time, featuring some of the most influential pieces of the era by a wide array of legendary players and composers.

The Nick Ford Project will be performing as part of Delheim Wine Estate's annual jazz-and-fondue festival, organised by CTMA! More details are to follow closer to the time
